We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal and Compliance Counsel (f/m/d) to support our divisional Legal & Compliance Department.
The role involves handling various daily business-related matters but also includes project and other longer-term initiatives related to various legal and compliance topics across Europe. You will work closely with our Head Legal & Compliance and become part of a team of legal and compliance specialists.
Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal and compliance advice on general asset management related topics (including investment management agreements, advisory agreements, wholesale distribution topics, cross-border, etc.).
- Data Protection: Provide expertise and advice on data protection (CH DP and EU GDPR) in close cooperation with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and local responsible for data protection matters.
- Trading Contracts: Coordinate and provide subject matter expertise in the establishment and amendments related to various types of trading related contracts, including derivatives, securities lending and trading venue contracts.
- AML/ KYC and Sanctions: Support AML/KYC and sanction-related matters, including coordination across the division and being involved in the future standard setting.
- Project Representation: Represent the function in projects and special matters such as setting-up JV structures and reviewing investment opportunities with a focus on real assets.
- Reporting: Coordinate internal reports and reporting duties towards Swiss Life Group.
- Training: Provide and coordinate regulatory trainings for staff.
- Continuous Improvement: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practice and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Representation: Represent the divisional legal and compliance in internal and external working groups and projects.
Experience
- Education: Swiss or EU qualified lawyer.
- Experience: At least 8 years PQE in legal and compliance roles within the financial industry, preferably in asset management.
- In House Experience: Proven track record of working in-house in the banking or asset management sector. Alternatively, insurance background with a sound experience in the asset management sector.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in legal with a sound understanding of compliance matters, including investment management agreements, data protection, AML/KYC, and derivatives/ISDA agreements.
- Regulatory Knowhow: Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in Switzerland and ideally also the EU / EEA; UK would be an asset.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient in using legal tech tools and open to adopting and supporting the evaluation and introduction of new technologies.
- Languages: Fluent in German and English; other languages are an asset.
- Innovative: Willing to question existing procedures and suggest improvements.
- International Experience: Experience working in international environments and handling cross-border legal issues with a nexus to Switzerland.
- Adaptable: Open to taking on new and unexpected files and cases.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to mentor junior staff.
- Ethical Standards: High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity and compliance.
